o holy night…

“O Holy Night” is my favorite Christmas song.

Starting out as the French poem “Minuit, chrétiens” (Midnight, Christians) by Placide Cappeau, it was later set to music by another Frenchman, Adolph Adam in 1847. Known as “Cantique de Noël,” it was then translated in 1855 into English by John Sullivan Dwight, an American minister. Today, this poignant carol is heard and sung in many languages all around the world.

When performed perfectly, it can be powerful and emotional. Josh Groban’s version does just that, as you can see and hear from the video below. The song tells the story of Jesus’ birth and celebrates the holiest of nights.

I would like to wish you all, especially my family and friends,  a peaceful and joyous Christmas.
