don’t know much about history…

After forty years on this fast-moving planet, I have learned quite a few things. While some took no time at all, others I learned the hard way. Although I do not claim to be an expert, I would like to share these little pearls of wisdom I have picked up along the way.

Well, not quite all. Just forty of them…

  1. It is better to give than to receive. Always.
  2. All work and no play definitely makes Jack a dull boy.
  3. Love is the greatest gift of all.
  4. Not everything tastes good with ketchup.
  5. An apology can be incredibly powerful for the recipient, as well as for yourself.
  6. Beer is better when it’s so cold it hurts.
  7. Appearances can be deceiving. Professor Snape is a great example.
  8. When choosing which road to take, always take the higher.
  9. What you say to a child today will impact that child tomorrow.
  10. Being a hero doesn’t require you to wear a cape or to have super powers.
  11. You were given instincts for a reason. Trust them and use them.
  12. Staying home on a Saturday night doesn’t make you boring.
  13. 1+1=3
  14. Wearing a mullet is never a good idea.
  15. Sometimes not doing something is doing something.
  16. Everything goes with black.
  17. Naps are good for you.
  18. The secret sauce is really not a secret.
  19. If you are one-in-a-million, then there are 6,700 others like you.
  20. When your power goes out, never go down to the basement. Ever. See Halloween, Friday The 13th, and Scream.
  21. There is always free cheese at a mousetrap.
  22. Asking for help does not mean you are weak, but rather you value others’ input.
  23. Pork is the other white meat.
  24. Nobody cares what you look like when you dance. So got out there and dance!
  25. You do get what you pay for.
  26. It is better to want something you don’t have, than to have something you don’t want.
  27. Coloring outside the lines is OK.
  28. It doesn’t matter what you can do, but rather what you will do.
  29. Vegetables really are good for you.
  30. Martinis are better shaken and not stirred.
  31. Write to express, not to impress.
  32. Time wasted is time lost.
  33. Always saving up for a rainy day is not such a good idea when you live in the desert.
  34. Today is yesterday’s tomorrow.
  35. Mean people do suck.
  36. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’ll keep getting what you’ve always gotten.
  37. Love is a thing that you give away; it’s not a thing that you own.
  38. It’s not the size of the bat that counts, it’s how many runs you score.
  39. The Hokey Pokey is not what’s it all about.
  40. When sticking thumb tacks into bulletin boards, press on the flat end.
