my cheating heart…

I am having an affair. And not just any kind…

It all started so innocently and definitely took me by surprise. I wasn’t looking to cheat, let alone actually doing it—it’s just happened. While it was happening, I told myself this would be the first and only time I would stray, and that I wouldn’t enjoy myself.  Not only did I liked it, it felt so good. In over twenty years, I would never have thought I am capable of such an indiscretion, yet I am confessing that I am.

Today, I bought a pair of Nike running shoes. It may not seem like a big deal, but for me, it’s one of the worst things I could have done.

See, I have only owned one pair of Nike shoes ever and have been loyal to the adidas brand for almost 25 years. Growing up, my mom only shopped at Mervyn’s and K-Mart. Since neither store carried Nikes, I never had the pleasure of wearing a pair. All the cool kids in school owned several pairs and I remember coveting them. When I finally got my first pair, I wore it with pride and kept it in pristine condition.

One problem though: Nikes tended to be narrow and pointy. Having the same-shaped feet myself, wearing them only made my feet looked even narrower. Being the vain person that I was (and am), I found the adidas fit me perfectly and accentuated my, uhm, shortcomings. And I have been an adidas fan ever since.

As a brand-whore, most of my athletic gear are made by adidas. I never really liked pairing different brands together so I stuck with just one.

adidas makes great shoes, but one thing they don’t do well is their color variety. On the other hand, Nike comes in many, many options. So today, I went to the Nike store to see what they have to offer.

Boy was I surprised! There were many cool, interesting color combinations that my head went into a tizzy. Feeling like the kid in the proverbial candy store, I really had to reel myself in before I spent my life savings on shoes—not like I haven’t already done so!

After what seemed like hours, I came away with a white and blue NIke Shox Remix+ II. Just like my adidas Microbounce+, the Shox provides excellent heal cushioning and is surprising light and comfortable. And unlike the adidas, it will send data such as distance ran or calories burned to my iPod. How cool is that! Beauty and_brains—I think I’m falling in love!

For now, I will still stay true to my adidas roots.

Unless, I run into a black and red Shox. Or a blue and yellow pair…

Me likey…

Still my favorite…
